NAID, National Association for Information and Destruction

Mobile shredding offers a unique way of destroying confidential information that is contained in documents that a business or individual creates. It is important to ensure that confidential information is kept confidential and that it does not find its way into the hands of the wrong people. Therefore, shredding all documents that contain sensitive information is the ideal solution.

Shredding services and document storage companies have many document destruction policies to obtain to.  The board that oversees most, if not all, is the National Association for Information DestructionNAID, which was created in 1994, is an international trade association for document shredding companies. The mission of NAID is to promote the information destruction industry and to enforce the standard and ethics of its member companies while informing them.

The National Association for Information Destruction offers a Certification Program to all its member companies which provide information destruction services.  NAID holds their member businesses to a high standard with their code of ethics and most become NAID certified as well.  Document destruction services, who are members of NAID and are certified, are secure companies where their customers feel safe giving their confidential documents and materials to be destroyed.  The customers have added benefits to having their documents and materials shredding; they can either watch (on-site) their products be shredded or send them with the shredding company (off-site).  Also, their shredded documents and materials will ultimately be recycled, so when they are shredded, they cease to exist.

Types of companies, other than document destruction companies, are eligible for the National Association for Information Destruction’s membership.  These other types of companies include businesses which supply products, equipment, and services to shredding companies.

More often than not, shredding companies will do business with other NAID certified companies rather than companies who are not certified.  The reason behind this is the safer and secure they can make their clients feel, the more prosperous they will be.  Being NAID certified is and will continue to be a priority for successful document destruction companies. All want to be better than their competitors and being a part of and certified by the National Association of Information Destruction is one of the most important ways to surpass their competition.
